Earth Knowledge: Information for sound, sustainable decisions

“This is something I have been waiting to see since the Google Earth API was introduced a few years ago.”, Google’s Chief Technologist

I recently met the founders of Earth Knowledge and I was mighty impressed by the offering. If you have any interest in sustainability from a business, community or personal perspective, then Earth Knowledge could be an invaluable tool for you.

What is it?

Earth Knowledge is a website, a knowledge-sharing portal, a network and a service all in one. Its mission is to equip leaders, organisations and individuals across the globe with the information and networks they need to make sure that the decisions they make take into account and minimse their impact on the environment. How does it work?

  • The company has formed partnerships with the likes of NASA and the British Geological Survey to ensure that the portal offers comprehensive, in-depth and up to date information on everything to do with natural, economic and social capital.
  • We love the Virtual Globe, powered by Google Earth (and we’re not the only ones – check out the tag-line of this post for a quote from Uncle Google himself), which provides the day’s environmental news and alerts in an interactive format. These globes can also be customised for a whole range of purposes.
  • The portal, based on Earth Knowledge’s proprietary WISSDOM™ (World Information Systems Socially Delivered via Online Media) technology, offers all the information you need to ensure sustainable decisions.
  • A network enabling people working in sustainability to collaborate and communicate.
  • Interactive maps, fly-throughs, infographics and visualisations can be developed bespoke to help your organisation demonstrate the impact of projects in an engaging manner that can be easily communicated.
If you like the principle of Earth Knowledge, work in sustainability and want to be associated with them, they do offer sponsorship opportunities.  So if your company is interested in anything sustainability-oriented, then this one is definitely worth having on your radar.
